I'm a speech-language pathologist with nearly two decades of experience working with children across a wide variety of settings. I began my career in a large pediatric hospital, and was able to learn and grow my skills on a multidisciplinary team of OTs, PTs, and psychologists.
Transitioning to a public charter school setting but prior to working in a private school, I gained experience working with IEPs and all of the accompanying rules and regulations of the schools. I also spent 11 years of my career teaching at San Diego State University. Working as a clinical instructor there allowed me to learn the balance of “practice what you preach,” guiding graduate students in speech-language pathology as I worked in local schools and ran my own private practice.
After 17 years living and working in Southern California, my family and I relocated back to the greater Chicagoland area where I am SO HAPPY to be once again, enjoying the seasons and all their glory.
Being a native Chicagoan but spending time in Boston for graduate school then moving to San Diego where I have spent most of my career, I never realized the impact the change in seasons has on one's life.
There are many markers that a shift in seasons brings - they signal change or an opportunity for growth and learning, just as the change in weather helps to mark the changes in one's day-to-day activities. From a childhood development perspective, all kids go through seasons of development; if your child is strong in gross motor at the moment, it is possible their language is taking a temporary backseat.
After spending time away, I'm so thrilled to be back in Chicago with its beautiful seasons. I'm even more excited to continue helping children in their seasons of development - through speech, language, feeding, and more!
Talking tips, feeding tips, milestone info, and answers to language development questions - find it all on the Seasons Blog!
